It’s been somewhat of a tumultuous year (perhaps an understatement). So on the eve of Christmas perhaps it is time to review my progress on this degree to date (naff all) and think about ways to improve that in 2010.
One of the possibilities is to realign my research proposal to meet the needs of the academy as well as makes use of the humungous amount of collateral I’ve created over the last three years.
Such a plan could perhaps be encapsulated thus: “How Social Media has impacted on business communicators with at least 10 years of industry experience”. It would be part auto-ethnography (trust me, I can write about myself, oy vey!) and part semi-structured interviews (multi-format: text, audio, video, in-world) with practitioners across the globe; I am thinking probably eight interviews.
The literature on auto-ethnography is, of course, large; the literature on social media less so. I reckon I have something to contribute to both that crosses both fields.
Let us hope that my two wonderful co-supervisors command me to “Make it so, Number One.”
